Abstract

This editorial introduces the 2026 issue of Icelandic Connection and reflects on the evolving meaning of connection to Iceland. Once rooted primarily in heritage and the experiences of Icelandic immigrants in Western Canada, the Icelandic community today includes a much broader network of people connected through scholarship, storytelling, translation, art, genealogy, and a shared curiosity about Iceland’s culture and history. The editorial celebrates the diversity of voices represented in the magazine—from academic research to emerging creative writing—and emphasizes the role of Icelandic Connection as a space where these perspectives meet. Readers and contributors alike are invited to participate in sustaining and expanding the living cultural legacy that continues to link people to Iceland in many different ways.
